My kids gave me enough material to write TV comedy. Where will the jokes come from now they’ve left? Helen Serafinowicz The inspirations for my BBC show have packed up and gone to uni, leaving me to rattle around on my own. At least they will be back for Christmas Helen Serafinowicz is the writer of Motherland and Amandaland Apparently, Gordon Ramsay wore his son’s underpants after he dropped him off for the first time. I am sad but I think I’m fine not wearing my kids’ underwear. There are support groups and counsellors that specialise in empty nest syndrome but instead I’ve signed up for netball on Tuesdays and Thursdays and I’m going to have a good old sort-out of the house ready for when they’re back for Christmas. Let’s hope they bring home lots of material! Helen Serafinowicz is a writer and television producer

The obvious outlier is Mrs Brown's Boys. It's pretty dreadful, but the live audience gives it warmth, and that's what people respond to, I think. It's mad that something like Amandaland is single camera. It should be the biggest, broadest comedy du jour.

I loved Motherland, and when they announced a spin-off, I was cautious as they tend to be a bit rubbish. Well, surprise! Amandaland is bloody brilliant. Highly recommended.
