#ASIS2025
My research presentation from #ASIS2025 is now up. We analyzed the relationship between wingers and wingbacks using SkillCorner data — you can hear about our results at the link below. Huge thanks to @saberpowers.bsky.social and the rest of the organizing team for getting these up!

Had an absolutely fantastic time connecting with friends old and new at #ASIS2025! Kudos to the organizers (@srudd-src.bsky.social, @raviramineni.bsky.social, etc.) for creating a fun and inclusive atmosphere, I cannot wait for next year.

At #ASIS2025, we learned about more about how numbers can help inform how we talk about soccer (and learned about a big MLS trade in the process):

The future of soccer is data-driven: American Soccer Insights Summit shows what numbers can do
Data can tell us a lot about soccer. I spent two days with some of the people uncovering new insights.

Having attended #ASIS2025, we should note that there was far too much useful information.

We were heartened, however, when Stefan Szymanski compared soccer analytics to alchemy. He's on the right track.

As somebody in the industry I won't make the same claim, but having been to several others in the space I can definitely say #ASIS2025 was the highest ratio of high quality programming among analytics conferences Ive attended
Think I've decided #ASIS2025 and its future iterations is the only conference I will go to. As someone very much tangentially related to the sports analytics space it definitely scratched that itch without feeling too networky or feeling like you needed to come away with a bunch due to obscene cost

hearing jen cooper talk about archival and her work is a) incredibly incredibly cool and (b) just makes me think of the iihf flood story, which has haunted me forever since @quarkyhockey.bsky.social and @alyssalongmuir.bsky.social told me about it #ASIS2025

this seems to be a partial call to action for nwsl league translation factors, but with a more personal edge too (players who have already moved to an international league before making a similar significant move to the nwsl, players who speak english) #ASIS2025

both the opening and closing industry keynote very focused on recruitment and roster building, with an emphasis on the money/salary cap side of things for the nwsl+mls #ASIS2025

the data ingestion monitoring dashboard and slack integration is super smart and extremely useful and v reminsicent to monitoring stuff at my work, but is not necessarily the kind of dashboard someone starting would think about making #ASIS2025

hell yeah the least talked about part of dashboards/any sort of web app in these sports analytics contexts: deployment (esp production deployment) #ASIS2025

give a person a report, you can answer their question. give a person a dashboard, you can make them answer their questions (until things change with the data or the question) #ASIS2025
