Simple answer is no, not at all.

"The only mandate won in an election is a mandate to be the government. A government does not win a mandate to shut down opposition to its policies." Donald Horne

Does Labor have a mandate to do what it wants after its big election win?

So Plibersek goes from being the one put out to explain why they're approving new coal mines to be the one put out to explain why they're not raising Jobseeker.

Labour has a whopping great majority and four years left to turn this country around.

They should be setting the agenda, not chasing about trying to placate voters of a party with five MPs who will never vote for them anyway.

It's not only disappointing... it's embarrassing

"There are a lot of people that are seeing things on the TV screens, seeing the horrors, turning to their political representatives, and they’re not asking for the lines of the day, they’re asking for a statement of values, what you believe in, what you will stand up for" - well said Ed Husic

Wish I had written this. Note: Labor was already rotten in it's first term. Rotten and spineless.
The ALP states it values solidarity above all else. There is a party line, walk it. This means it values solidarity above morality seemingly as a matter of principle. Ultimately then you get a large unthinking, unfeeling bloc that agrees with itself while the world rots around it

"Bravery is the best antidote to fear," writes @richarddenniss.bsky.social.

"Labor right has used the fear of irrelevance to control the Labor left for decades. Now that it is the Liberals who are irrelevant, the biggest danger for Labor is that it is afraid to use the power voters have given it."

"I was seeking a minority government that drove Labor left, but in the absence of that I want Anthony Albanese to be confident enough to return to the values of his earlier political life; to see a bold leader who acts like the country just gave him the fucking golden ticket, because we did" #auspol
What will Labor do next?
