A5: Blog posts with writing tips, helpful social posts, webinars, #ACESChat or presentations are ways editors can show off their knowledge in service of marketing goals. Whether these are comfortable to you and fit with your goals/audience determines whether you should try content marketing. 2/2

A2: I think that understanding our unique differentiator can be one of the hardest parts to see for ourselves. That unusual thing in your background or the task that comes really easily to you can be our special sauce. Ask a close colleague or friend if you need help identifying yours! 3/3 #ACESChat

I find that it helps to *not* think of it as marketing! Changing the language to "connecting with people who need editing" or "building relationships with other editors" feels more natural, but it can still get us thinking about "and how do I convey who I am and what I do?" #ACESChat

A4: I want Paper Airplane to feel like the magazines you loved as a kid. Low-stakes but high-quality. Familiar but completely new. Something you can pick up and put down or pore over. Most importantly, I want you to feel better after spending time with it. The opposite of doomscrolling. 1/2

That was my favorite part of editing and publishing my print lit mag—the creative collaboration! Obviously I still get some of it when editing authors' creative writing, like novels, but it's on another level in a creative mag. #ACESChat

A1: After my layoff, I started doing freelance work for Philadelphia Magazine and also helped to launch a hyperlocal print magazine, where I was responsible for writing, editing, or sourcing every piece of content from cover to cover. Then I decided it was time to start my own thing. 3/3 #ACESChat

A7: The best advice I got was to start by specifically identifying what my primary goals were. It may seem obvious, but actually listing them out made it much clearer what I needed. I try not to waste time on deciding which tool is “best.” I start a trial and if it works I keep using it. #ACESChat

Exactly! I miss the days of going to Borders Books and spending half an hour or more looking at all the different magazines. I want to have fun things to read that I don't need a screen for. #ACESChat
