DJ Fee - Southend Rock
From the Tummy Touch album, Rude Girls.
I don't know much about this. I just found a copy on my desk one day and it was absorbed into my collection. Also appears on the ace 1999 compilation, Kinky Beats.

Cocteau Twins - Pearly-Dewdrops' Drops
I first became aware of the Cocteau Twins via the NME 1984 poll-winners 7" EP, which I played to death. Found this last year at a car boot sale.

The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band / With A Little Help From My Friends
Bloody good little band. 1978 release. A Day in the Life is tucked away on the B-side. The B-SIDE!

Peace Orchestra - Shining
AKA Peter Kruder from Kruder & Dorfmeister. A double 12" too. The Peace Orchestra album from 1999 is essential.

Bobby Scarlet - White Pearl
Mentioned before, but Bobby Scarlet were the big band on the local C86 scene. I say 'scene', but it was maybe 30 people. Released on the - none-more-jangly-sounding - La-Di-Da Records.

The Wedding Present - Peel Sessions EP
I regret not buying more of these EPs as a teen, but I had to balance a social life with buying records. I love this one. Three classics and a surprising - to me - cover version. 100% my favourite Weddoes era.

Coldcut - Autumn Leaves
It's that time of year, I guess. The A-side is all well and good, but it's the flip - The Irresistible Force Full Chill Mix -that everyone talks about. In terms of human achievement, it's up there with the moon landings.

The Pastels - Speeding Motorcycle
Great Daniel Johnston cover from 1993. For some reason, this is filed in my brain as late-era Pastels. At best, it is late early period. Anyway. I love the Pastels. Have a good weekend y'all.

Dynamo Productions - Think
From my time in record sales. I think this was the first record I worked with any enthusiasm - probably because it was by Portishead tour DJ Andy Smith and has an ace old skool vibe. Freebie from the office promo cupboard.

Electric Six - Gay Bar
I remember going out for breakfast one time and this came on the radio. There was a little 4/5 year old kid singing along loudly, while his embarrassed mum frantically tried to get him to stop. Delicious.

I contend that in that golden late 70s/early 80s period, there were few who could touch EC. What a songwriter. What a run of great records.

I couldn't afford the boxed set at the time, so I bought the 7" EP with a promise to myself that I would save up for the expensive item. I never did. Cheapskate. Still, four of the greatest songs of all time for £1.99.

If you're looking for a rabbit hole to fall down, you could do worse than to investigate 1980s psychedelia. This is wonderful. First heard - appropriately enough - at the Sunshine Playroom in Brighton.
