Life Siphon is a bad spell. DnD’s Unearthed Arcana can be all over the place in balance terms, but this may be the weakest combat spell that I’ve ever seen in DnD. It’s also horribly boring.

Life lnversion field is new in DnD’s unearthed arcana Psion updates. It’s bad.
The name is cool, but the mechanics try to lean into in-combat healing in a way that’s extremely resource-hungry with very little benefit to the caster.

DnD’s Telepath Psion got another round of Unearthed Arcana. It’s fine, but I can’t remember anything that they do beyond telepathy and reading minds. The mechanics just aren’t doing anything for me.

The PsyKinetic Psion is an offense-focused subclass for the dnd Psion similar to the evoker Wizard. It leans hard on its own subclass spells in way that may prove limiting, but otherwise it’s pretty cool.

Metamorph Psion is back and horrifying as ever. The latest DnD unearthed arcana made some great updates to the subclass. It’s much more effective, especially in terms of resource management, but it still has issues.

The psiwarper Psion did not reappear in the recent dnd unearthed arcana. Apparently people liked it, but I found it boring. I’m willing to admit that I’m wrong, but I’m already bored of all of the Misty Step subclasses.

The Mystic never made it to print in DnD 5e, and for good reason. It took some big swings, but it never got to a point where it was ready for print. Now, several years later, we’re getting the Psion.

DnD players: being good at rolling a d20 is the shortest path to being effective in DnD. If you get really good, you don’t need to optimize!
But most of us can’t control how well our dice roll, so maybe character optimization is still the answer.

Tool proficiencies in DnD have so much potential to be something interesting, but they just aren’t. WotC hasn’t done anything interesting with them, and they’ve given us very little reason as players to engage with that part of the system.

Yes, you could use creature-only spells to identify mimics, but there are plenty of mundane ways to do it, too, so it’s not a problem.
Also, RPGBOT in all caps like your DM is screaming it after they see your build.

How do we draw aggro in dnd? There aren’t a ton of mechanical options for it, but the concept of “aggro” doesn’t make much sense in a game where enemies are actually thinking rather than executing a programmed response.

5 hit points is bad even for a wizard in dnd. Use cover, drop prone, play it safe. Try to reach level 3 and hope that things improve.
