International Working Women’s Day protest: solidarity with political prisoners in China & Hong Kong International Working Women’s Day was founded by working-class women fighting for better working conditions and the right to vote. On Saturday, 8 March, we will honour this tradition by protesting in solidarity with women political prisoners in Hong Kong and China. Women are jailed by the Chinese state for standing up for workers’ rights, women’s rights and democracy, and as part of the mass internment of minorities. We demand freedom for trade unionists and democrats like Carol Ng, Winnie Yu, Chow Hang Tung and the other women political prisoners in the case of Hong Kong 45, feminists like Huang Xueqin, and Uyghur intellectual leaders such as Rahile Dawut. Join us to build international labour movement solidarity with their struggles. Bring trade union banners and placards. Date: Saturday, March 8, 2025 Time: 3:00 PM Location: Chinese Embassy, London (49-51 Portland Pl, London W1B 1JL) Stand with us—make sure their voices are heard! Our Demand: The Chinese government must release all women political prisoners jailed for their activism in labour movements, feminism, and democracy advocacy! I always wish we were hit with fewer athleisure ads and celebrated more loudly the proper origins of #InternationalWomensDay: that March 8 is for explicitly acknowledging women's labor, both in the home and in the workplace—and in solidarity with labor movements around the world.

In the midst of ads for women's day bouquets (not that I ever turn down flowers) and athleisure brands, I always wish we celebrated more loudly the proper origins of #InternationalWomensDay: that March 8 is for explicitly acknowledging women's *labor*
