We don't have any daikon in the teahouse to munch on, but we have snagged a tasty bunch of 'turnips' by the confectioners Matsuya (松彌), Kameya Shigehisa (亀屋重久) and Kagizen (鍵善良房).

Kuzu (葛) is a popular ingredient for makers of traditional Japanese sweets, especially in the hotter months.

Hibiscus and cotton rosemallow may well conjure up images of languid summer days, but in Japan 'fuyō' (芙蓉) are used to indicate the onset of autumn. In the language of flowers they represent gentleness.

Kameya Shigehisa's (亀屋重久) 'fuyō' have some impressive stamens!

5) For an all too brief moment the Myōshin-ji (妙心寺) sub-temple of Chōkei-in (長慶院) allows visitors to come and enjoy its gorgeous wisteria.

Nearby Kameya Shigehisa (亀屋重久) provides wisteria-inspired kinton🙌

Today's afternoon tea has a decidedly Welsh feel to it (naturally making me yearn for Welsh Cakes and Bara Brith🥲).

Kameya Shigehisa's (亀屋重久) 'suisen' (水仙 'daffodil') would make a perfect St David's Day (聖デイヴィッドの日 - March 1st) accompaniment.
