Maduro challenges Machado: 'If you want peace, prepare to win it'

Nicolás Maduro broke his silence about María Corina Machado's Nobel Peace Prize. This Sunday, 48 hours after the award, he exclaimed, challenging the opposition leader without naming her: "If you want peace, prepare to win it." His statement occurred at a public event marking Día de la Raza on October 12, which Chávez regime renamed "Day of Indigenous Resistance" to acknowledge the discovery of Christopher Columbus. To honor Indigenous peoples, Maduro dressed in a feather headdress with arrows on his shoulders. The regime's leaders have kept total silence, ignoring the prestigious Norwegian prize, which was awarded to Machado for "her tireless work in promoting the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and for her fight to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy" and for urging her to recognize the results of the presidential election that gave victory to Edmundo González Urrutia on July 28 of last year. He referred to the deployment of the U.S. navy fleet of destroyers and submarines off the Venezuelan coast, which he thinks will be defeated with the deployment of weapons purchased from the Russians and Chinese and the training of civilians with the Bolivarian militia and now with indigenous groups who also want to enlist to confront the American Marines. While inaugurating two statues of indigenous people, Maduro noted that "we want peace and we will have peace, but peace with freedom, with sovereignty, independence and equality. Not the peace of Gaza's ruins nor the peace of death." He also attempted to belittle the charismatic opposition leader as a witch. "Ninety percent of the population rejects the demonic witch of La Sayona (a Llanos legend)," he snapped. And he stated that he will not negotiate the surrender of his post. Machado, for her part, reaffirmed this Friday when she won the Nobel Peace Prize that "liberty and democracy we will conquer, and we will win," as a prelude to Maduro's challenge. "It is inevitable that Maduro will go; his days are numbered."

An opponent of strongmen is a good choice I think given current times but it’s been pretty surprising to learn about some of the things she supports. Seems like there were probably better alternatives. Granted I don’t think the committee was validating that stuff at least.

This will end badly. The #NobelPeace Committee often gets it very wrong. Remember Henry Kissinger in 1973, Obama in 2009 & Abiy Ahmed in 2019? How can the Nobel peace committee award this prize to an opposition leader who sides with Trump and Netanyahu, and has invited them to invade #Venezuela?
