there are models that you can run on a gaming PC, but they're already free. The stuff the AI companies are doing, especially with images video and music use way more electricity and compute power than is feasible for an individual to run

I feel like the environmental criticism of AI is a trap. it arguably uses less water and electricity to have AI make you something like a business logo in seconds than having a designer spend hours making one in Illustrator. That doesn't mean it's the better option.
