right?! omegaverse come with way more depth even with het ships. and imo it's basically a fantasy sub-genre

I'm also still begging the world for more female alpha x male omega LOL it's an amazing dynamic I've only read one so far

plus you also get to read a story about two characters you're rooting for who, in a normal world, wouldn't be able to have biological children together, but now can have their cute little lovechildren in omegaverse and go through the intimate experience of pregnancy together

and I think a reason why people who aren't cis men like yaoi omegaverse so much is because it removes you from our world and puts you into a separate setting where you can explore these concepts safely. one appeal of mpreg is that the pregnant man is cis and has a layer of separation from you

I also like that writers have a lot of creative freedom in their worldbuilding. how does hormonal medication work? how segregated are the secondary sexes from each other? is there a marking system? is abortion legal?

omegaverse's core philosophy: how pregnancy is treated in society

I've dipped a little into het omegaverse too and it's a bit different from queer omegaverse, but I do think it's valid and still unique for het romance readers. they like to add in stereotypical wolf-pack social settings, and the addition of alpha/omega traits are a new layer to ravishment fantasy

another thing I like is that queer relationships are usually normalized in a/b/o worlds, too, so that aspect of society is completely removed from relationships. nobody cares that you're gay. what they may care more about is your financial, social, or medical status.

radfems specifically HATE omegaverse. but it's more specifically about exploring the struggles and anxieties of being a person who can get pregnant: whether it's succumbing to natural instincts you can't control, or becoming victim to it

related, something I really like in omegaverse stories is that you'll usually see alpha women in them, and there's some odd equality in primary sex (male/female) vs secondary sex (a/b/o)

I think it's easy to perceive omegaverse as glorifying patriarchy in a different skin, which is probably why
November 30, 2025 at 7:20 AM
because unlike regular humans, the omegas don't HAVE a biological choice. their careers are affected by heat cycles and they're seen as a nuisance in society. they might have to hide their secondary sex for social or safety reasons.

the alpha/omega dynamic is less male/female and more predator/prey

I saw an argument about how omegaverse is "just het dynamics with the woman swapped out" and that's how you know someone doesn't actually read omegaverse, both het and queer. cause the more "animalistic" aspects of omegaverse (rut/heat, knotting, pheromones) create a whole other dynamic
