Often, I've wished that I could've had quicker success, greater financial security, more respect, et cetera, as a writer. For nearly twelve years now since leaving the law, I have often felt ashamed for wanting to be a writer and doubtful of my talents. What helped in these moments was to consider what was important, rather than the urgent feelings of embarrassment and helplessness. What was important is still important now: to learn to write better in order to better complete the vision one holds in one's head and to enjoy the writing, because the work has to be the best part."

I might buy it since it’s a lot cheaper than a used art book.

Here’s another post I made that day.
I’ve lived in Austin my whole adult life, so I love Alamo Drafthouse, especially the original location.
But I grew up in Denver and was surprised that (at least on this occasion) it was even cooler.
Kitbashers dressed up in cosplay gear to look like Mad Max extras. A patch of the Colorado state flag is on the shoulder of one of their vests. The other faces the viewer brandishing a weapon that appears to be a shoulder mounted projectile launcher.

I was at the premiere @alamodrafthouse.bsky.social in Denver and there were some incredible kitbashers in the parking lot, actually a lot of them.

Btw, I agree with Zoe Bee that the true allure of doomsday prepping is Maker culture.

A funny thought experiment that turned into something I'll want to come back and reference. 😆 My job is a Theseusean Task and my partner's is a Cassandrean Task. I need one that describes a task where the instructions are just a trick and you have to figure out what the task actually is.
Original post: "the fact that we only have Herculean task and Sisyphean task feels so limiting, so here's a few more tasks for your repertoire: 1) Icarian task - when you have a task you know you're going to fail at anyways, so why not have some fun with it before it all comes crashing down. 2) Cassandrean task - when you have to deal with people you KNOW won't listen to you, despite having accurate information, and having to watch them fumble about when you told them the solution from the start (most often witnessed in customer service) Feel free to chime in I ran out of ideas much faster than I anticipated." I believe in the 10,000 hours thing. Successful artists and writers aren't "talented" in the way most people think of that word. What's special about them is their willingness to make thousands of tedious and invisible attempts, which lead them slowly on a path to mastery. #art

Facebook post by me commenting on the headline “Shooter was a 15-year old female student” My post regarding it follows: “My first thought when I saw this shooter was female was to wonder if she’d seen Arcane. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a stunningly beautiful depiction of some female protagonists able to make the physics of violence unfold exactly as they intend, every time. The animation is incredibly realistic seeming, utilizing enough accuracy (blended with the absolute ideal aesthetic) to really impact your perception of reality at a subconscious level. The stylistic twists on each image only make it more memorable and interesting. My artistic abilities revolve around the depiction of “ideals of reality.”… I like to make things look accurate, but better than you’d see in reality. And I have the same goals and aspirations in writing. But I have always felt conflicted about fiction in any form. It’s because I grew up before internet, but I’m young enough to really love and immerse myself in that world since then. And my observation of people younger than me is that their expectations of reality are based on how they “observed” a thing unfold on TV. “Common sense“ is now usually based on the collective experience of a scenario on a popular show or trope. I always wanted to be an author/illustrator, but (to me) the trick is using art to depict what is fundamentally true about our world, and not deviate in any way that could mislead an invested reader about the true nature of a scenario. Idk if that’s even possible, and I hate the idea of giving up my favorite fictions, at all. Taking Arcane as an example: it’s the most violent thing I’ve ever seen. And it was an exquisite pleasure to watch. I have loved fiction since I was little. In many ways it has been my life’s purpose. But I do believe it damages individuals and the collective. So debate of this dichotomy lives rent free in my mind most of my waking hours.”
