While things have badly accelerated over the last year, our issues really began when:

We put the wants of much higher corporate quarterly earnings over peoples' basic needs

We don't need the government violating our constitutional rights in the form of ICE.
If you believe in smaller government, that's not this.
If you believe that the government is formed to assist, protect and support its citizens...
Yeah, this is nowhere close
If you believe in freedom, another no

No, we don't need Greenland for our security or for any other reason. For security, we build more and stronger alliances.
You don't covet a country and take it by force or dollars. Countries aren't a thing at the country club gift store to buy or steal. They are sovereign nations made up of people.

They are still promoting the lie that Columbus discovered America in their current propaganda and I was going to say something about it, but then I was listening to an episode of Bad Indians Book Club podcast and I'll just leave this here:

Years ago (term 1) I had posted:
The worst formula is when Power + Ego is mixed with Ignorance + Immaturity + a lack of empathy.

But I think I was missing the extra component that seems to imbalance our Democracy and is sending it hurtling into straight up Autocracy:

If this statement about what can check his power doesn't give you pause, maybe nothing ever will and you are doomed to it:
"Yeah, there is one thing. My own morality. My own mind. It's the only thing that can stop me".

What if we brought to bear the resources used to police the poor and unfortunate to instead hold accountable the pedophiles, corrupt and criminal who also happen to be rich and powerful?

Thanks for the silent and peaceful protest today locally and the peaceful protests across the country this weekend. It was great to see friends out there.

ICE had already gone way too far. It first went wrong when it failed to treat people with basic rights and due process.

Defending the tyranny of the government to take life that it is elected to protect and serve is in fact laying your freedom at that government's feet.

Hold accountable that government and demand that it not take life and enlist you to take away peace and promote war.

So many people trying to see if the ends (whether it is in our long term interest, whether the leader is corrupt) justify the means (unprovoked attack, no congressional approval, not having real evidence of a crime, violating sovereignty, being the hemisphere's bully).

There are a number of things you could debate this country needs right now
Really, really hard to see a debate on the country needing to start a war though.

Life can be conflicting
My girls and their growth, my friends, family, and community and my time listening and being in nature grounded me and made for a great year.
At the same time, the world (and my work) seemed to be on fire exposing the worse of self interest and short term thinking.

Things won't get better this way

You can fix the root problem or conduct political theater
If you conduct political theater, random chance says you'll occasionally accidentally fix something but most problems remain unsolved.

Someone who refuses to or can’t admit they are wrong, can't listen,
Someone who refuses to or can't listen, can't learn,
Someone who refuses or can't learn, can't take different actions,
Someone who refuses to or can't take different actions, can't make things better.
It really is that simple...
