You may have heard a lot about our new La Mancha kids lately, but Ponyo would like to remind you that she's still just a baby too! Look how tiny she is in her bucket! #OnlyZooATL (photo: Becky Y.)

Losing it over how adorable our new prehensile-tailed skink hatchlings are! The pair made their debut last month, and are living behind-the-scenes with their parents. Unlike many reptile species, these guys stay with their parents for quite a long time- sometimes upwards of two years!

Somehow our Halloween surprise is already nine days old! Mama and baby are doing well and continuing to bond behind-the-scenes, and we can't get enough of this sweetness. #OnlyZooATL (photos: Nate A.)

Dr. Jane Goodall was a trailblazer in great ape conservation, a hero who dedicated her life to advocating for primates. We were fortunate enough to host Dr. Goodall here at ZA in 2014 as part of her Roots & Shoots program. Dr. Goodall's life embodied our mission. Her absence will be felt deeply.

Gogo the gopher tortoise loves going on enrichment walks to eat grass and clover! In addition to his "hot tortoise walks," he also enjoys a regular diet of hay, leafy greens, squash, carrot, sweet potato, bell pepper, and green beans, as well as different browse items. #OnlyZooATL (photo: Claire T.)

How gorgeous is this little one?! The Bird Team has successfully fledged two red and yellow barbet chicks in The Living Treehouse. Their parents were bred as part of an Species Survival Plan recommended breeding pair, and this is their second season raising chicks at Zoo Atlanta. Congrats Bird Team!

Up close and personal snapshots of our elephant herd on this lovely #WorldElephantDay! Fun fact: a portion of every ticket is donated to conservation programs, including our partner Conservation South Luangwa, which works to protect wildlife in Zambia's South Luangwa Valley. (pics: Elephant Team)

Our tawny frogmouth flock continues to grow! We're so excited to welcome two new chicks, Latke and Pistachio. Both chicks are doing very well, and getting floofier by the day! Congrats Bird Team! #OnlyZooATL (photos: Bird Team)

Congrats Bird Team for fledging two superb starling chicks! Superb starlings are notorious for their sneaky nesting skills. This pair nested above a heat lamp that is inaccessible to the team. Even though we were suspicious there were chicks, we were pleasantly surprised when two chicks fledged!

We're so excited to welcome four adorable lesser Madagascar hedgehog tenrecs to Wieland Wildlife Home! Kinkajous are in the same family as racoons and are nocturnal and arboreal mammals. Fuego came to Zoo Atlanta to be a companion to our resident kinkajou, Maya. During discussions with the zoo he came from, we discovered Maya and Fuego are actually siblings! - Becky Y., Ambassador Animals Team

Our Taveta golden weavers have been very busy lately weaving their nests! The males use their strong claws and beak to weave hanging nests from long grasses. Once the nests are complete, females in the colony will assess and mate with the most skilled nest builder. (photos: Josh M.)

If you’ve stopped by to visit Floyd lately and haven’t recognized the big boy on habitat, you’re not the only one! Floyd is almost 6 now and starting to grow out of his baby features. But don’t worry, he's not all grown up yet. He can still be found annoying his sisters most of the time!

Smurf & Warrior modeling the before and after of their haircuts! With warmer weather incoming, the alpacas down at the petting zoo recently got their yearly shears. This helps them stay cool during the summer months, & we're able to repurpose the wool as enrichment for our carnivores (pic: Becky Y.)

If you know your elephant behaviors, you know sparring establishes dominance, builds strength, is practice for future competition, and is fun! Bull elephants will often spar while playing. It's a critical way elephants build social bonds and establish their place in the herd (vid: Elephant Team).
