A girl with deep dark brown fluffy pigtails with bows and a yellow dress is running through the woods. She stops when she arrives at a stream, saying, “Whoa!”. Mortimer stands in his sister’s room, looking at the destruction, commenting, “This is even messier than normal.” As he begins to pick things up, he says, “Did she have a tantrum when I didn't fall for the frog trick again? Why would she wreck her own stuff?” The next panel cuts to the girl sitting on a log, crying. “Snf sob snf.” Mortimer is picking things up in his sister Melisa’s room when he spots a strange book upside down and open on the floor. It as a reddish brown cover and reads “The Baron and his Children”. He picks it up. “I thought I read all her books but I don't know this one.” He opens it up, saying “Aren't we both a little too old for a picture book?” The last large panel is the first page of the book, on ivory coloured paper with dark text. In a black and white rough woodcut style is an illustration of a knight with a sword and a partially hidden figure in a witch’s hat. The text, in a fancy font, reads, “Once upon a time in the Kingdom of Trescrie, a long war ended thanks to an Enchantress and a knight.”

Half the page is a panel featuring a grey stone brick house with a castle-like extension, by a stream and trees with mountains in the backdrop. Shouted so loudly it covers most of the sky is one word: “MELISA”. The bottom half of the page features a panel showing a different room; only the door and a portion of a bookcase visible. Sitting on the floor reading a book is a redheaded boy dressed in brown pants and an orange striped shirt with dark suspenders. His head is turned away from us. He just says, “Uh oh.” A close up shot of a brown haired woman, moving quickly, anger on her face, saying: “Where is that girl!? Melisa!!!” We briefly see a shot of legs running through a forest, wearing a yellow and brown skirt. Back at the house, the brown haired woman has opened a door into a room with a bookshelf, bottles and weapons. Inside a redheaded boy hides guiltily behind his book. The woman says, “Melis- oh, Mortimer?” A brown haired woman approaches a redheaded boy. She says, “Mortimer, where's that sister of yours?” He stammers, “I don't know - I think I heard her go outside?” Her head falls and she says, “Ugh, okay, I'll try looking out there.” She looks up with a point. “And YOU -” The speech bubble of her next words poke into Mortimer’s cheek, “You KNOW you're not to go into the Baron's study!” “As punishment, go clean Melisa's room!” Shocked, Mortimer says, “Huh? HER room? That's so unfair!”. We see a glimpse of her grim face as she turns around to leave as she says, “Don't worry, that girl is going to get a talking to when I find her.”

For real though! The only example I could think of off the top of my head was Moribito and it turns out the anime of that came out in 2007 (it was good tho)

That said, I don't remember us ever studying anything, fiction or non-fiction, by indigenous people from Canada. I only ended up studying any in an elective course in uni later. Considering the amount of diversity in my high school English classes overall, its absense speaks volumes.
