I feel the capitalism has always been there but in the 90s only selected titles were imported with an emphasis on the cool stuff. Now it's completely indiscriminate, but that's because Pokemon was the turning point.

What about Cardbuyer Monster Guy J5 from 2005? Yes I was 8 when I watched it and haven't seen it since 2007 but I'm pretty sure it was a groundbreaking auteur vision about human spirit and buying as many cards as possible.
