FF7 Remake has a bunch of devs that worked on KH1 and KH2, and you can see some of the DNA there.
I remember being so confused when Square announced their intentions to make mainline Final Fantasy games use a combo of real time combat and turn based mechanics and then tried to reinvent the wheel each game. A Final Fantasy game that plays like KH would be a hit, right??

It’s kinda wild how good Kingdom Hearts 2’s combat and ability progression system is and yet seemingly no other AAA games did their own version of it
I know intellectually it’s not that technically impressive, but in my heart, childhood me is freaking out over the concept of being able to play Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix on a handheld running at like 90 fps
