Landlords big and small have power because there is a limited supply of housing. Lots of examples showing that increasing supplies puts downward pressure on rents. Unless you are talking about literally buying/seizing buildings building more is a great way to stick it to the landlord.

Have you ever talked to a mom and pop landlord who has to compete with new amenity rich buildings? most of the YIMBYs I know support a comprehensive approach to fixing the broken market, but reducing regulations that prevent new supply has to be a part of it
