oh yeah, sony really seems to have a thing for their weird formats and proprietary codecs. i think i still have my old md player somewhere which used atrac3 instead of mp3 or anything common. burning cd’s to md always required using their own weird software and (re)converting stuff which sucked

i mean lossless is pretty nice since we’re usually talking cd quality. alac is also nice and essentially identical to flac. hi-res lossless stuff makes no sense but audiophiles are weird and won’t use your service if you don’t have it, so it’s not just apple. and still the master’s probably 16/44.1
