That's a huge improvement in readability!

Re the topic of the article, I bet for Flatpak and HomeBrew as distro agnostic repos.

Homebrew is a pretty decent source of development tools, because Mac users get them all from there.

Paradoxically, you install brew with a curl | bash

SteamOS is special, it's an Immutable distro, and in principle you can only install things from Steam or in Flatpak format.

It's possible to modify the base image, but after an update it will be gone.

If you need detailed instrctions, you probably shouldn't do it.

Emulation as in retro-gaming?

Even before the Steam Deck, there were already Linux powered handhelds for retro-gaming, and people were building home arcades with Raspberry Pis.

Unless you are doing something very niche, you probably can do it on Linux.

Gnome implements the Wayland XDG-Activation protocol, but the apps must support it too.

I remember seeing the behaviour you describe a lot, but not lately. Maybe because I'm using Fedora and it has newer versions of the apps.

If this is genuine curiosity, I have used Linux for over two decades, mostly Debian, Ubuntu, Arch and Fedora.

What I really like about Fedora is that it's very up to date, uses standard software, it's low maintenance, and it's rock solid.

I can say some of those about others, but not all of them.

My opinions are also based on experience.

Ubuntu has been good, before 2012.

Based on recent experience, the only system I have with Ubuntu (not my choice) won't be upgraded to 26.04

Don't fall for Canonical's propaganda.

No matter how many times they repeat it, it's false that Ubuntu is better for noobs than other distros like Fedora, OpenSuse ...

What's more, I recommend anyone who isn't already a veteran Ubuntu user, to avoid Ubuntu, because lately it's been a bag of bugs.
