Completed Chibi-Robo today. I usually play some pretty high energy games, so a chill game like this was a good change of pace. I got only about half the stickers, which is pretty wild. Probably won't be trying to get them all though.

Been playing Diddy Kong Racing lately, almost done with it now. I remembered it being a lot harder when I was a kid. The R+B drift makes you turn crazy tight which is very fun when you get used to it. Also rare screenshot of T.T. being unlocked and not Drumstick.

I figured since I was so close already I may as well finish the feature. So much for a low priority. Once I've cleaned this up a bit, I'll be forcing myself to take a week long break from working on this, I've been going a little too hard lately and my hand is starting to feel it. #psx #romhacking

Every character now uses a single byte to represent it instead of two, effectively halving the size of all text, which will be very useful. I also messed with variable width font (pictured), but it's not really a priority at the moment. From here I'll focus on adding more English. #psx #romhacking

This scrolling text ended up being a huge headache, but it's another hurdle cleared. After I finish making the encoding/insertion tools, I should be able to put out the whole opening cutscene in English! Look forward to that soon. #psx #romhacking #littleralph #translation

Was trying to get the first text box in the game, which means we are now entering the "really weird bugs" portion. If I tell the game the box has too many characters, the text doesn't even show up (not pictured) and then the graphics stop erasing themselves (pictured). Why? No idea. #psx #romhacking

I think this is because all of the font related images have a vertical color palette size of 0 and no CLUT entries at all, which understandably could prevent them from even being detected. TimViewer gets past this and opens them anyway, with a seemingly random palette every time. (2/n)

I lied in my last post, the text box length was also as easy as changing one byte. Now I have no excuse to keep avoiding looking for where the character sheets are. #romhacking #psx

I fixed my font sheet tim file and got Ralph to speak English! I'm also showing off my half width font hack, it was as simple as changing one byte. This uses the game's built in (unused) English font. The very long text box will not be so simple a fix unfortunately. Great progress! #romhacking #psx

Tried another message and failed a little less spectacularly this time, probably because I redid the character sheet. It's supposed to say "Hello Bluesky!". Current guess is it has to do with how it reads the .tim image. Time to go back to the reverse engineering mines I guess. #romhacking #psx

I've officially put my first English word in Little Ralph! Here you can also see the repeated character effect in action more clearly, with my edited character sheet changing every instance of a character into the edited version. Feels like I'm making good progress so far! #romhacking #psx

Not sure why I didn't think of this yesterday, but by replacing the x or y coordinate with a value in the middle of two characters, I can get these respective results, pretty much confirming my image theory. Makes me worried about getting a script dump though... #romhacking #psx #littleralph

Attached is my verbalized notes on the formula for converting a character into its x-position value. A different formula is used to convert the same character into the y-position, pretty wild stuff.
