The Govt voted against my amendments to the EPBC Act—missing a crucial opportunity to modernise our environmental laws.
My amendments involved:
* Climate financial risk disclosures
* A duty of care to future generations
* Assessment of cumulative impacts
* Fair appeal rights under enviro orders

The govt’s environment laws ignore the biggest threat to nature - climate change. I’ve proposed several amendments, including requiring climate-related financial & transition risk disclosure as a consideration for all approvals, as well as embedding a duty of care for wellbeing of future generations

Disappointed by the govt’s rushed push to pass a 1,500-page environment bill without proper scrutiny or consultation. This is a key chance to protect nature & embed climate accountability—but the bill falls short.

Great news! The govt will finally introduce local content rules for streaming platforms. This is a huge win for Aussie stories, jobs and our screen industry. Proud to have stood alongside actors, creators and so many others who helped push for this outcome. It’s a great day for Australian stories.

The govt promised local content quotas for streamers back in 2019 – but 55,000 Aussie screen industry jobs are still at risk. France, Italy and others have acted. Why hasn’t Australia? Sign the petition to #MakeItAustralian and #SaveAustralianStories

Parli resumes today & here are the bills the govt has put on for debate.
My priority this week is the Environment Protection Reform Bill. It’s essential the Govt allows proper time for considered debate in the House - robust environmental protection requires accountability, transparency & ambition.

Parliament is back this week. I’ll be focusing on the Payday Superannuation Bill and its impact on small business, my amendments to the Administrative Review Tribunal to ensure fairness and efficiency, and supporting crossbench changes to strengthen the Centre for Disease Control Bill.

The govt is yet to release the exposure draft of its EPBC reforms — keeping community in the dark on vital environmental legislation.
Without transparency or consultation, we can’t deliver the strong protections nature needs. Once again, this govt chooses secrecy over integrity.

I welcome the govt’s decision to revise its super tax reforms following crossbench advocacy.
I continue to call on the govt to strengthen the PRRT and pursue broader tax reform — shifting the burden away from personal income earners and onto big polluters.

The budget outcome shows that disaster relief cost $5.5b more than expected, while the PRRT delivered $30m less. Natural disasters are costing us more & fossil fuels are contributing less than promised. If the govt is serious about fiscal responsibility, it must stop approving fossil fuel projects.

The PM is having a bet each way — strong rhetoric at the UN while still approving projects that put fuel on the fire. A 62–70% target is fence-sitting, not leadership. We need ambition that keeps Australians safe and seizes the economic opportunities that clean energy presents.

Today’s ABC report shows fossil fuel interests are spreading misinformation to delay climate action. From fake studies to AI content, the risks to trust and democracy are real. I’ve called for truth in political advertisement for years. We need legislation before the next election.

Since 2022, Australia’s screen industry has shrunk by 60%. Streamers make $4B here, pay less than 1% tax, and invest little in local stories. I’ve launched a petition urging the govt to mandate investment in Aussie content by 30 June 2026.

A safe climate needs a minimum of 75% target.
This sets Australians on the more dangerous risk trajectory of climate impacts, identified in the government’s very own risk assessment released earlier this week.

Days after approving Woodside’s gas expansion, the Govt released its Climate Risk Assessment. It confirms escalating threats to homes, health & economy. The upcoming 2035 target must be bold — a 75% cut by 2035 is the baseline. Anything less betrays science & our Paris commitments.

Australia’s first national climate risk report exposes rising threats to our health, homes and economy, but ignores the root cause: coal, oil and gas.

In QT, I asked the Treasurer why climate resilience & adaptation weren’t even on the agenda at his economic roundtable. His response was brief, underwhelming & telling.
Climate risk is economic risk. The longer we wait, the higher the cost.

While others in Parliament tried to wind back Net Zero, I introduced a plan to protect communities from climate risk—with mandatory 5-year assessments and a national adaptation strategy. Disasters cost us $38B a year. Denial won’t help—preparedness will.

I’ve tabled my Climate Change Bill to prepare communities, households & our economy for climate impacts. Extreme weather costs $38B yearly, set to double by 2060. If Parliament has time to debate scrapping net zero, it must also debate how we build resilience & safeguard Australia’s future.

Australia’s 2035 emissions target will shape our future. A commitment of at least 75% by 2035 is what science demands to limit warming to 1.5°C—and it’s smart economic policy. Strong action cuts disaster costs, protects homes, drives clean industry investment and keeps Australia competitive.

Australia’s future productivity depends on bold, forward-looking reforms. In my submission to the Economic Roundtable, I’ve called for phasing out fossil fuel subsidies & prioritising clean energy innovation to drive growth, cut emissions & build resilience.

The proposed EV road-user charge is unfair & not what the Productivity Commission recommended. Any road-user charge should be part of a national, equitable reform that applies to all vehicles. It should replace the outdated fuel excise & reflect the true cost and emissions impact of transport.

The Govt’s delay of the National Climate Risk Assessment is deeply concerning. Australians deserve to know the risks & suppressing this info ahead of the 2035 target decision undermines trust. I’m calling for its release, a national adaptation plan & at least 75% emissions reduction by 2035.
