Hatching study getting ready for a making a woodblock

Thinking through the translation from a line drawing a predicted final printed piece. Kind of hard to image what the layering of multiple colors are going to look like, especially when the lines drawn are actually the "reveals" to the color below, and not necessarily the paper color.

Long story short, changes to laser power and speed don't make a whole lot of difference in the print quality of the block. Out of focus DOES manipulate line width (eg, 1/2 an inch out of focus gets a nice fat line, focused is a hairline). Mostly it's all about hatch density. Knowledge is power!

A little ASMR inking

Making a test pallet for a printing experiment using laser cut blocks. I want to see what kinds of hatch patterns and densities work for inking woodblocks.

Starting to think about a longer running project. I've always wanted to make a deck of cards, and working through how you'd structure a project that needs 52 single instances of 4 themed images and 52 perfect reproductions of a single image.

3D model generation from prompts isn't quite as far along as 2d image generation
I do appreciate the system's attempts to simplify the ideas

Fancy tech is all well and good, but I'm still in love with paper and pens

Generating the svg directly from Cusror, getting layer and color separations so I can do the print in 3 colors.
(well, 3 tool paths . . . I went and did multiple passes with different pens getting the color and texture right)

More conversations with Cursor/Claude. Pretty responsive to adding screenshots and graphic notes to change element locations, initiating things like convex hull for polygons to stop intersecting, make SVG files on the fly and move around layers, offset lines to create fills/line widths for plotting.
