This fuckin sucks, fam. Pete Stauber (who cheats at hockey) wants to permanently destroy one the largest wild spaces in the country in order to give a handful of people a few extra dollars.
Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed House Joint Resolution 140 (HJ Res 140), Representative Pete Stauber's attempt to use the Congressional Review Act (CRA) in a totally unprecedented way - to overturn the 20-year mining ban protecting the Boundary Waters watershed from toxic copper mining. Next, the resolution moves to the Senate, where it would bypass the filibuster and require only a simple majority to pass. The CRA has never been used to challenge or overturn mineral withdrawals or Public Land Orders. These are governed by the Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA), and the proper process was followed completely and legally when the Boundary Waters mineral withdrawal was established in 2023. This resolution doesn't just threaten the Boundary Waters — America's most visited Wilderness. It sets a dangerous precedent that any past land management decision or Public Land Orders could be vulnerable to being undone. We need you to help us fight back. The time to raise your voice is now. What you can do: Contact your U.S. Senators today and urge them to oppose HJ Res 140.
