Here in Taipei, the past 24 hours felt like we were literally on shaky grounds with tremors occurring every so often. I can only imagine how challenging life must be for folks living in Hualien, the heart of all these seismic activities since Apr 3. Sending positive thoughts 🙏🏼

Hearty congratulations to my better half on his successful PhD defence @TorontoMet today on the most fascinating subject of “Attracting immigrants to smaller and remote Canadian communities”. You rock, Dr. Marc Valade!!

I truly have the best job! Many thanks to my amazing public/constitutional law small group students who flattered me today with this highly idealized figurine. I wouldn’t mind a life-sized cardboard cutout next time, just saying. 😂

This paragraph from today's Quebec Superior Court decision resonates. Paraphrasing it here: Bill 21 sends a message to religious minority students (in fact, to members of religious minorities in general, I would say) that they occupy a different space in society.

Just received this most awesome gift from my fabulous small-group students. What a great way to wrap up this year! Apparently they were debating between giving me a plaque vs a trophy. Well, to make things easier for my future students — a crown will do. 😂

Really appreciated the critique of "choice" by the majority of SCC in Fraser. Now, can we please revisit the growing line of case law that rejects immigration status as an analogous ground because it is apparently something that immigrants can "choose"?

In this timely anthology, #Vulnerable, I examine migrants' entitlement to healthcare & income support in Canada during #COVID19 pandemic. I argue less-than-full inclusion of migrants in pandemic response violates equality & reciprocity. It also undermines public health. #cdnimm

Sad day in Taiwan... majority of referendum voters voted against expanding definition of marriage in Civil Code to include same-sex couples. Majority also voted against the implementation of Gender Equality Education Act, which teaches sex ed & gender/sexual equality. :(
