But go back in history, and look at the 1930’s era racist propaganda associating marijuana with Mexican immigrants, or to the 1850’s associating Chinese workers with opium. Drug laws have always been used to target non-white people.

The War on Drugs declared by Nixon in 1971 had always targeted the anti-Vietnam-war left and Black people primarily. They always wanted to demonize the former by associating dirty hippies with marijuana, the latter with heroin.

Tangent: Now I’m trying to remember how unscrambling the Spice Channel worked. It had to do with getting a clean sync signal, but how did the set-top box know it belonged to a subscriber? Does anyone remember how this worked?

But then I think the era of cable TV when one could ALWAYS find some version of LAW & ORDER to watch. Those channels had commercial breaks, but they were never premium channels like HBO or whatever.

But YES. That was the point of HBO, was getting the whole movie WITHOUT commercial interruptions. This was even true of streaming a few years ago. Now, it’s paying money AND still getting inundated with the commercials. I would go back to OTA, but the content isn’t there.
