I think it’s mostly because they’re gacha, and unfathomably popular at that. The genre is inherently predatory so there will always be a layer of cynicism to the writing. No matter how good a Hoyo character is on paper, they’re marketing tools first and foremost

YEAH LIKE- they don’t trust their audience enough to produce a story that feels organic. While I like a good amount of aspects of ZZZ, Hoyo’s writing hurdle makes the story such a slog. I’ve barely started season 2 to this day and am only just now catching up on agent stories

A character undooming another’s narrative by showing them autonomy over their lives is a great romantic ship, but it doesn’t necessarily need to be one. In Rex’s case I’d rather it be platonic during XC2
