The cuts to police over the last decade have been drastic! I am not one to defend the Met but it does seem they are quite stretched and hence these issues.

I do agree, its not petty theft, but it is nowhere close to the hellscape that right wing media is making it out to be

suffice it to say, i go about my day pretty fearlessly. i havent even gotten weird looks from people let alone anyone bothering me!

the only real problem in london is theft of personal property (bikes, phones, burglary etc.) but it is very safe for a city of this size...

This world of immigration is fundamentally built on the back of erstwhile (or current?) imperial and colonial networks. but is the racist right ready for that conversation?

Ultimately the minimum wage is a brilliant tool, but it can’t compensate for “we haven’t built any housing”, “we have cut cash transfers to the bone” and “all the third spaces have been cut to pay for social care”.
The minimum wage is not a cure all — we’re asking too much of business
Politicians spend too much time uttering cheap rhetoric about cheap labour

It is amazingly horrifying in how little Labour leaders have zero, even negative faith in the values that their party's supposed to stand for. I have the deepest sympathies for the party ground floor workers and supporters who're disgusted by this grotesque betrayal of their values. It's despairing.

This is interesting. It is from my generation (I'm 28) that this has become more common among India's middle and upper classes. Otherwise it is still quite common to have shared rooms for siblings.
