Hypothetically you could use the five green spaces in Ladd's as the foundation of an arcology without actually displacing any residents. However, I suspect they would still be upset about, you know, the whole "blocking out the sun" part.

This was actually something that the Citizen Review Committee suggested in our 2021 Crowd Control report!

I want to know what @trryjhrrs.bsky.social's would be.

Based on the tenor of my last... nine? Council appearances, mine would be "Which Witch" by Florence + The Machine.

As I mentioned in my last thread, we are months if not years away from having a functioning Office for Community-based Police Accountability, and in a few weeks, we'll have NO functioning system of police oversight if the City cannot reach an agreement with their represented staff.

For the past five years, IPR staff have worked to keep the City in compliance with the Department of Justice Settlement without clear assurances about their future or their livelihoods, an experience can only be described as Kafkaesque.

The City owes them a fair and equitable contract.

i.e. 8-9 years after we voted to end this. Imagine if Charter Transition (which started around the same time) had taken this long. Feels bad!

Once case intake starts, the current system has to clear any old cases. The average Officer Involved shooting takes 12-24 months to go to the review Marc is talking about, so if by some miracle we can start the clock on 7/1, we'll still be hearing cases in the old system for 1-2 years more.

To my knowledge, the City has yet to do more than minimal planning for anything past the first step or two.

Even hitting a 7/1 start date would require EVERYTHING to go ABSOLUTELY RIGHT... in a process where everything has consistently gone wrong for five years straight.
