I believe it turned that way when lonely guys who hung out in lonely guys' circles used it as a way to negatively shut down other guys when they had a social interaction with a female in which the response of "What are you, a simp?" Evolved further from the beginning to what people know of it today.

If I recall, simp used to just have a negative connotation to be used on lonely guys who give huge sums of money to a female streamer in hopes of reciprocated feelings. It later become a coined term and taken by other lonely guys and now describe anybody who is nice to women.

It's upsetting that Rule 34 has an AI filter first compared to Pinterest, but I guess that's the advantage when it comes to having the ability to tag photos.
