Playing history. Filmmaker and Designer of “Chicago 68” and “The Nights of King Ludd”
Editing a doc about a Puerto Rican domino house on a snowy Saturday (when all I want to do is hygge and play indie board games)

A Tale of Two Chicagos: one, in the throes of revolutionary struggle, the other, crushed under the boot of state power.

(love seeing two simultaneous games of Chicago '68 at my local game shop!)

Reading this morning: Eurymedousa, mother of the Myrmidon, was seduced by Zeus who had transformed himself into an ant. An ant. Leda and the Swan, ok, ridiculous, but ok. An ant. Greeks…

I may have to add “Battlefields of the Napoleonic Wars” to this list. Beautiful design work by @mropla.bsky.social

Taking suggestions for cat names! She’s springy, sweet, and apparently loves Jazz.

What a great experience at @sdhistcon.bsky.social! Finally had a chance to play Cross Bronx Expressway, the John Co. Mega-Game, Bowie, Tierra y Libertad, and even run a double demo of Chicago '68...

Huge thanks to all the convention staff, players, and designers for making this happen!!

“Jimi would play Risk on acid, and I never—and me personally—ever beat him at all. He was unbelievable at it. He was a military man, you know, he’s a paratrooper, and I don’t know whether you know that about Jimi, but no one ever beat him at Risk.” -Graham Nash

You’re familiar with the Talmudic interpretation of that passage in Exodus noting that “frog” is singular, I.e. one giant monstrous frog plague creature?

Post of appreciation for Board Game Academics (@bgacademics.bsky.social & @chriscarbone.bsky.social) for putting on such a boldly curated program on historical games, the mind, and ideologies of play. I’ll be chewing on this for months!

I’ve been playing a couple games of Ted Raicer’s “I, Napoleon” by @gmtgames.bsky.social - a solo card driven, almost RPG-ish, storytelling vehicle for history nerds 🇫🇷

I just attended a soap box derby in rural Virginia sponsored by Space Force. Recruitment was practically nil save for a few prepubescent boys asking for the “space man” poster.

@thedietzfoundation.bsky.social's timing couldn't be more uncanny. First copies of CHICAGO '68 delivered the day of the first turn in the game: August 26, 1968.

We’re on the road, so it’s primarily small card games (bottle imp and Hanafuda 🎴), and the occasional match of Curious Cargo.
