Thanks, I'll check it out as I'm new to learning about how AI actually works. Our discussion inspired me to read the supplement to the book. I'm still very open to the idea that they are wrong, because of course I don't want everyone to die. ifanyonebuildsit.com/resources

They said the AI program could hide for and develop its capabilities over time. It might not be rapid and sharp in all domains, just the a domain that let it far enough out of our control. A main thrust is that we cannot predict the how or when, but only that something catastrophic will happen

They made the case that the alignment problem coupled with the quantum leaps AI makes, would result in loss of control of the superhuman AI. The descriptions of how this all can happen caused me to feel much more like a machine, and the machine much more human. It feels much more possible now.

No, you were on track the first time. I just read this book & found it very compelling. I’m aware that most people don’t share their extreme views, but I think a lot of people should read and consider the argument. They’re not even against AI generally, the true Luddite position.

Our response to people’s words and actions are largely the responsibility of us, not them.

ST has been consistent in promoting local financing of small projects. ST doesn’t argue here that state permitting of adus is a bad thing.
