i get lamenting the death of unions and strikes but i do think it is true that they belong to a different point in history. a strike only does anything in a situation where all the workers downing tools *would* actually halt the whole operation, which is something hard to imagine happening now

some days i hate that i have a dead end job but i dont know if i would even be happy with one which fit my interests either. it's nice in some sense to be able to fully treat work as a utilitarian formality

the way a lot of left podcast ppl talk about derrida is so funny, like as if he was this evil genius mastermind who invented a mind virus called 'deconstruction' in order to stop leftists from agreeing on things (as if that was a thing which happened anyway)

rorty makes a good point abt nietzsche's last man getting a bad rep ngl lol, like it is sort of a weirdly tautological assumption across the whole spectrum of radical politics that achieving comfort rather than some kind of Transfiguration Of Man is bad and the worst thing in the world

seeking representation and recognition within art rather than politics should be seen more as a condemnation of the current failure of the political sphere to function in a more useful manner, not as proof of arts usefulness to politics (which leads to both bad politics *and* bad art)

i think what puts me off badiou and zizek is the way you can (perhaps cynically) see a lot of their positions as scholastic subversions of what was dominant (and probably annoying) when they were studying. like you can just feel 'mathematics = ontology' being cooked up to piss of heideggerians etc.

living somewhere that's almost entirely houses and supermarkets really wears me down some days.
