That dates all the way back to Bush 2 in which the warmongers scoffed at the "reality-based community" and claimed they could create their own reality because "we're an empire". We're still living with the results over here.

If it were the other way around they'd be filing charges under the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Pity the FCPA doesn't cover incoming bribery as well as outgoing.

They all need to get off this NOW. "Ship them out to be judged by foreigners" is not only tone-deaf, it weakens people's understandings that these are crimes under AMERICAN law and if we can't address them our system will fail.

That was my first thought. Drug smugglers don't take passengers and there wasn't a lot of cargo.
Framing complaint: "trafficked" suggests people snatched off the streets to be sold into slavery. More likely they paid to be taken to the US. "Migrants being smuggled" is a better term.
