Finally, our very own @ericmakesmistakes.bsky.social was pitchside throughout the evening, and caught this iconic moment just after Gotham FC had won the #NWSL Championship.

We decided to see how Gotham FC head coach Juan Carlos Amorós' analysis of his own team before the game matched up to what happened in the #NWSL Championship. Not bad, we'd say!

Spirit actually did a pretty good job denying Gotham's difference makers the chance to make the difference... until they didn't. Lavelle with 1 box touch until the touch that made the difference, at the top of the box.

Gotham consistently progressed the ball from half spaces, and wide channels into the box and for cutbacks all season. Born out on the goal to win the title.

An unfortunate playoff journey for the Spirit, with Kouassi, Bethune, and Morgan being 3 of the top 4 playoff participants by goals added above average for their positions. When looking at raw goal probability, Kouassi, Bethune, and Monday come in as the top 3.

Perhaps most interesting, the least goal probability provided for their team came from... Trinity Rodman, who actually reduced Spirit's chances of scoring goals with her actions. Was very very clearly not at even half fitness, let alone full fitness.

Needless to say, the athletes have no say in this process. We congratulate Gotham FC on their championship season, and wish them safe travels back home.
