Thanks! Lede is built to support indie/subscription media so the idea that someone thinks we're intentionally enabling dark patterns is frustrating to hear, but mostly I just want the product to work as best it can for publishers and their audiences

Aspects of the popup behavior are configurable in a form and so shouldn’t require coders on the publisher’s staff. Gruber potentially pointed out a scenario where the popup appeared prematurely which I’d be happy to take an actual bug report on if one were offered and fix it if applicable.

Of course. I’m a grownup who can handle feedback. If people find bugs in our software I’d just like to know the details so we can fix it.

My team and I who
wrote the code are humans who make mistakes. If he found an actual bug I’d like to know the details so I can fix it.

And for clarity: I don’t think anyone is a giant baby per se, but the popup he’s complaining about is supposed to appear after 3 paragraphs and screenshot makes it look like it appeared immediately (although it doesn’t lock scroll so he could’ve scrolled up before screenshotting)

Hi Lex! I'm the CEO of Lede. I'd be happy to hear more about what you think we could do better. We learn a lot from our publishers and their audiences and we're genuinely not trying to get in anyone's way.

I'm the CEO of Lede (joinlede.com), the platform that hosts Aftermath. I'd be happy to talk more about what's going on and what's supposed to happen by default on our product. In any case, if you need someone blame, blame me rather than the folks who make Aftermath.
