13000 species! The incredible (10k+ recordings on XC!) Marc Anderson aka @wildambience.bsky.social contributes it: xeno-canto.org/species/Limn..., a frog from the Malay peninsula. Thanks for sharing Marc! #bioacoustics #frogs

Of course, all of this wouldn't have been possible without the help of hundreds of people painstakingly collecting mushrooms, putting tiny sea snails in sampling tubes while diving in a current, recording sounds for @xeno-canto.bsky.social that we used for the AI, etc. Thank you all!

Proceratophrys salvatori & Leptodactylus sertanejo. Courtesy Rubens Hisanari Matsushita. From a region near Brasilia. #bioacoustics #frogs

Well, regardless of how it is organised (we really don't know) it always seems that two very different groups are working there. We really like the "ecosystem" that is growing around BirdNET. We'll keep you posted on that XC app :-)

hi Henry, have you given BirdNET a spin? Open & based to a great extent on XC recordings. Some day we may launch our own app, but not any day soon :-)

how about creating an app to identify birds by sound? just to give people who want to ditch merlin - now that trump has cornell in his pocket - an alternative
