Crucially though, these gaps can be substantially closed, through obtaining further education or training in the host country or gaining better language skills. Such investments can be helped along by migration policies.

Happy to share new working paper with Neli Demireva. We analyse migrants’ labour market outcomes and how they vary by origin and motivation across Europe. Non-economic migrants face sizeable gaps compared to the majority and economic migrants, particularly in terms of employment.

Er is veel debat (vooral negatief) in België over de lonen en pensioenen van ambtenaren maar niet veel info. Het aandeel statutaire ambtenaren daalt, met meer contractuelen (absoluut en relatief). 'De ambtenaar' vergelijken met de hele prive houdt dan ook niet zo heel veel steek.

New open-access paper on collective bargaining coverage and premia over time. We find higher coverage is linked to better pay over time. Problem is that coverage declines, but not everywhere --> it is more stable where it is high and national/sectoral onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
