I think Jeremy Paxman's "did you threaten to overrule him?" interview with Michael Howard has a lot to answer for, even if I enjoyed it at the time.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the 1922 Committee.

Sitting Up Straight is a banger, fair enough, but MSR veered too much into Knees Up Mother Brown territory for my liking. Basically I'm still jealous that they found lasting global success while I was still hoping that reading the NME in the Common Room would make me look cool. (Reader, it didn't.)

I remember listening to Tim Wheeler talking about his A Level results on Radio 1 the same morning I went to get mine...

Ha! Fair enough, though give me Ash any day.

I assumed it was a Tricolore reference? "Nick, 30 ans, aime bien la vie à La Rochelle mais pas les impôts."

Well quite. Fancy applying to be the next DG of the BBC?

As someone who cut his reporter's teeth on the fallout of the Nazi gold saga, not to mention FIFA's never-ending shenanigans, Swiss sensitivity about corruption allegations never fails to raise a smile.

This is an exquisite quote. Heaven forfend! "There is a sense from some in Switzerland that this was very close to corruption."

I have no idea what it means (I'm older than you, don't worry) but is it supposed to rhyme with my absolute favourite slang, King Farouks? (Roddy Doyle's first publisher.)

Pure and simple, eh readers?

And that's before we get to the Deirdre's Photo Casebook photo.

I honestly thought it was a naff Daily Mash/Byline-style spoof of the "look how the right-wing BBC covers the Budget LOLZ" variety.
