Auckland has previously submitted that the deposit for the mayoral position should be increased to deter those candidates who don't expect to win but are in it for other reasons.

Auckland has previously submitted that the deposit for the mayoral position should be increased to deter those candidates who don't expect to win but are in it for other reasons.
Just to note that the risk of needing to apply section 70 increases with the number of mayoral candidates. Auckland has 12 candidates for one position. Most have no chance of winning, but if one of them dies the election has to be re-run. One of the candidates is also running for Christchurch.
