I actually really did try and lean into being an American when I travel and still do. I try to learn the local language, I tip well, I don’t become a stumbling drunken mess on holiday. Let them know we Americans aren’t all bad! And please don’t confuse me with a Brit 😅

I solved this problem decades ago traveling internationally during Bush Jr’s term. I just told people I was Californian, which is both true and likely to result in a much warmer reception
