CHICKEN STICKERS + a misread label I’ve wanted to recreate for months #sketchbook #chickens
A sketchbook page gripped from a weird angle by my pink fingers so it catches the sun! Dominated by three circular designs showing glamorous headshots of our three hens, whiskers, Vivian, and mercury, each with a celestial icon behind them- in order, stars, moon, sun. In between these are a little cartoony chicken and Scud looking over her shoulder, and a sideways rectangular sticker that says “refrigerate after sunset”.

My newest minizine, open to a page spread of a cluster of mushrooms among branches and ferns. Beneath the zine is a faded and beautiful quilt with a few different fabric patterns visible. At the bottom left of the page, I wrote- “bright yellow and rusty orange, but the newest little one has a red cap! Bursting out of a log”

Tea animals 🐇 little collectible ceramic guys my grandparents from red rose tea boxes. #sketchbook

A black ink impression of a pigeon stamp I carved today! The little buddy is all loafed up, in a square frame with checkerboard corners- a worm, two mushrooms, a mossy stick, and two flowers are inside the frame’s sides. The stamp the previous image was made with, held in my inky hand! Another stamp next to two impressions in a sketchbook- this one is a square composed of four hens staring down a big blueberry in the center! It’s inspired by quilt patterns.

Antique buttons drawn from an absolutely encyclopedic collector’s guide 🕺 #sketchbook #antiquebuttons
Buttons on this page drawn in green brush pen, with the word “ivoroids” in quotes (apparently what this type of button is called). Designs include a dove, bell shaped flowers, and a lily pond sunrise. Buttons on this page are also in green brush pen, with the words “Gay 90’s” and the date 8/17. Designs are mostly big gems in the center with ornate patterns around them, but there’s also a small acorn, a little rose, and a face in profile. The left page is in colored pencil, the right is green brush pen and the word “Bakelite” in a font approximating the one in the book. Designs include a brown egret, grapes and leaves, a fruit plate, and a dog I messed up on that says “OOP, no head”. This one’s all colored pencil! Buttons include a green heart, a blue button lined in gold with gold flowers, and a pink button dominated by a golden swoosh around a green leafed red flower.

SAND 🪨🐚 new 11x17 “mini” zine
The cover of SAND is just the four letters, as big as possible, spelled out using magnified bits of sand drawn in black ink. This picture shows the 11x17 color foldout, laying in the patch of sunlight on the kitchen floor that my pets love to sit in. A variety of colors and shapes of colored pencil sand are arranged around the page, with the four letters SAND in the bottom right corner like on the cover.

My sketchbook is balanced on my knees, held steady by my blue-nailed hand. Behind it you can see many beautiful pebbles. Sketchy drawings and handwritten notes are scattered across both pages- subjects include oyster shells, a crow feeding another crow, begonias and other flowers like clematis and nodding onion, and a chunk of iron covered in barnacles.

Stampin time

New zine out! Changing with the Climate: a visual essay on environmental education 🌱
