It’s also good to see the MAC acknowledge the necessity of making the Skilled Worker visa more flexible, so that workers can more easily switch between employers.

We have warned the Home Office that construction is not suited to sponsorship.
Construction workers often work irregular hours for contractors where oversight of conditions is lax. (Much like the care sector where rampant exploitation went unchecked)

Labour’s decision to increase English language requirements for migrant workers is legislation focused on optics.
All the data shows this is pointless. Government statistics show the majority of migrant workers already speak English very well.

Here’s the full picture. Referrals = victims who agreed to enter the NRM. DtN = possible victims identified by government-approved first responders, who nonetheless said no to the system. Huge increase in both. So yes, the NRM needs reform, but that’s because victims need protection more than ever.
