The sector is key to inclusive labour markets by enabling parents to (re-)enter work

There are similar challenges in areas studied but various campaigning to improve quality of work

The session proposed strategies for addressing issues of unpaid labour by rethinking an economic model valuing humanity and equity over exploitation and growth

Each paper suggested developing new conceptual tools with key theoretical contributions to go beyond regulation

Spain unlike Chile classifies these workers as (self-)employed

In Chile, there is limited regulation or backlash for breaches whereas Spain faces continual disputes to regulations

We attended a session chaired by @globaldevinst.bsky.social emeritus Professor Stephanie Barrientos in which Jill Rubery discussed an upcoming edited volume

The book will be out in 2026 and contains a collection of papers around gender equality in turbulent times

Following this, Professor Damian Grimshaw (King’s College London) & Andrea Marinucci (ILO) presented "Insights from the latest ILO Flagship Report on collective bargaining."

This rounded off our insightful plenary talks for the conference.

The first plenary talk on Wednesday at the conference was given by Professor Richard Hyman (LSE) and Dr Rebecca Gumbrell-McCormick (Birkbeck).

Their talk was titled "The evolving agendas of the European Trade Union Confederation."

This was an interesting talk which engaged the audience well.
