As great as getting a new yokozuna is, considering the expectations I would not want to be in Hoshoryu’s shoes right now. I will be patient with him and not curse him if March ends up being a misstep, but god I’m hoping he will get a 15-0 or a 14-1 on his rope debut to show the doubters.

Even if I have more faith in Onosato right now, Kotozakura will bounce back. I have faith.

Big props to Oho and Kinbozan to hang in there all the way to the end. I was starting to expect big things from Oho but he still surprised with how solid he was. Spirit of Taiho didn't guide him all the way through this time. And Kinbozan's sumo after healing from injury has been just brilliant.

I got glasses early January so obviously I instantly became a Nishikigi fan.

and Midorifuji was fun as always and had a nice streak to try to save himself from makekoshi but Gonoyama had other plans on the last day. Biggest heartbreak story wasn’t Kotozakura, but Ichiyamamoto beating his idol Wakatakakage and handing him a make-koshi. I would cry if I was Ichi.
