Bottom line is that our choices are limited to two right-wing parties. Dems (Reagan) and GOP (Trump.) Pick your poison.

You may like the party of Reagan. I do not.

Dems are beyond redemption. Structurally, they have made the party all but immune to grassroots democracy over the last 50 years.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!

I have no stomach for reactionary corporatist Dems. They have been rolling back the New Deal for 50 years. Enough!

We need an opposition party and I do not see Dems ever again being that.

"Corporate liberals" is an oxymoron, IMO. "Reactionary centrists" is more accurate. They have been rolling back the New Deal for 50 years. Our only choices are the party of Reagan (D) and the party of Trump (R.) This predated CU.

I would not discount the possibility.

It is important to remember these victims.

Good list. I would add "Ramp Hollow: The Ordeal of Appalachia," by Steven Stoll.

To paraphrase an old car commercial: "The relentless pursuit of mediocrity."

The usual reason: Oil and the interests of American oil companies.

It makes no sense that a gallon is now about $1 less than last week. The price here has been bouncing wildly for a long time.

I paid $2.39/gal on Monday in Ohio. Prices have been bouncing up and down wildly. Will likely be over $3.00 again in a few days.

One obvious flaw in your sensible proposal: Expecting Dems to do something useful. They have wealthy donors/owners to please.

Rationing healthcare through greedy insurance monopolies will always be a very bad idea, no matter how you dress it up.

We need a single-payer national health care system covering everyone.

Private interests will almost certainly go beyond profit to exploitation at the first opportunity.
November 26, 2025 at 3:16 AM
That, too. A while back, on a car forum, I had someone arguing with me that extended warranties on cars are a good buy b/c of all the tech. If I had my way I would be able to buy a car with much less tech, especially when much of the tech is buggy and unnecessary.
November 26, 2025 at 3:01 AM
They have been doing that for 50 years.

And they have the gall to ask why people don't want to vote for them.

We need an opposition party on our side. Dems will never be that.

I am late-70s and I hate touchscreens. Knobs to turn were the best because I could change settings without taking my eyes off of the road. To go thru menus on a touchscreen often requires pulling over or, at best, taking eyes off of road for several seconds.

I balk at the public-private partnership. Private interests will find a way to screw it up. Should be 100% public, with a goal to break even after a few years. True non-profit.

We need to go much further than the New Deal did on breaking up the power of corporations. They rebounded too easily.

To paraphrase from an old car commercial, I have begun to think of their approach as "the relentless pursuit of mediocrity."
