My sincerest condolences on your loss of Myka. My best friend baby girl suffered a stroke earlier this year at almost 20. She couldn't stand and struggled to push her body up to get vertical. I couldn't watch that kind of suffering, so I said see you later and I'd find her when it's my turn.

I still feed my cats meat-based food because they're obligate carnivores. I'm not. However, many premium brands, including vet food is vegan or pretty close to it. Probably why most cats won't eat it. But in the future, there may not be an option.

Much of the world will be vegan soon enough, unless you're rich. Droughts lead to smaller herds, which drive prices up. H5N9 is decimating bird flocks and plastic is the secret ingredient in fish. I'm vegan for the animals. For meat eaters, the writing is on the wall. No preaching necessary.

Can't even imagine how many animals are winding up in shelters because of deportations. It's heartbreak after heartbreak.

Yay for people who pick up random cats! Yay for people who go the extra mile when a tattoo or chip lead to a "dead end!" Yay for the family who won't let her outside again!

Feliway used to have a spray. Also make sure your cat carriers are safe and sound. Way too many critical mishaps on what should have been a simple trip to the vet. Good luck!

Interesting you should write about AI. I did as well, in the WLCA blog a couple of months back. I have similar concerns. I think people who are are 45+ are better at critical thinking than younger people. WLCA's demographic is the former, thankfully.

Haha! Especially endearing when they're beside you on the pillow in bed.

She needs a photo op with Mamdani.

Shelter should have been reported. Mastiffs are such gentle dogs.

Every shelter adoption department needs to have a sales team. Adoptions shouldn't be a passive experience where folks browse and leave. Have visitors fill out a form that outlines what they want in a pet and then have staff take them to animals that match their profile. It's about salesmanship.

Many of our cats have been “no children” adoptions. Not because they’re dangerous, but because they hide with a lot of noise and kids are noisy. Her bio says “quiet” home, so she’s likely to be a dog that gets scared with noise. I’m glad they’re holding out for the right type of family for her.

As someone who has partnered with a shelter in the past, I can relate. Ask the adoptions manager to get staff to introduce EVERY visitor to the dog adoptions area to Melia, whether they are looking to adopt or not. Explain why. Someone knows someone who wants her.

I realize that. But I think fewer people see animal slavery.

I’ve always thought The Handmaid’s Tale was the story of farm animals.

Consider you can work in a shelter environment and side-step the people. All the animals in your care will get all their vaccines. you can also work in other places like wildlife refuges, zoos, farms. We need more vets.

Hopefully, you were part of a team performing a perineal urethrostomy.

Oh, and she was also a long-haired black cat. The best!

One of my own had a benign mammary lump. She had it removed when she was 16 years old. She did great and I hope your cat will, too. Good vibes coming your way.

If you need resources to ensure the kittens will be going to good homes, check out the WLCA website. There is a section on rehoming cats with links to forms you an use. Many cats and kittens have been killed by sadists where I'm from because people just hand them out with no checks. Good luck!

Are you adopting them out on your own?
November 20, 2025 at 1:01 AM
Literally, pigs are amazing animals and using their good name to describe vile creatures, or a human, is disrespectful. Humans shouldn't be described as "animals" because we're so beneath that kingdom.
November 20, 2025 at 12:31 AM
Soooo, not feral then? Ferals don’t want cuddles. They don’t understand human interaction.

When/if he needs his teeth cleaned, that would be a good time to get the biopsy, I guess, but I don't know too many vets that would say no to doing that under reversible sedation, especially if it's gotten bigger. Good luck to you and your furkid! Hope all will be well.

Dry definitely has more calories, but it also comes with the possibility of urinary crystals if they don't drink enough water to account for the extra dry, so you might want to consider trying other canned foods he might like or adding some water to his regular canned in case he likes it that way.
