Nice closing note for my #CVPR2024 lead GC journey: the conference just won the IEEE iCON award for outstanding achievement in conference innovation at IEEE Convene 2025. We had an exceptionally excellent organizing committee last year, and this award is a testament to that!

What’s really interesting about this is that it isn’t a new issue; detecting out-of-set or novel input has been an unsolved problem in ML for decades, and as far as I know there has been little progress solving it in the general case (see among others the recent paper from @wjscheirer.bsky.social)
what's more interesting about this than many other hallucinations is that it is an attack on a fundamental feature of the systems as they exist today: they _can't_ say I don't know in response to genuinely novel formulations, but have to come up with some probable continuation.
