If 28 countries are trying to reach an agreement and 27 agree on one thing and the 28th country wants something else, it’s probably reasonable to conclude the barrier to agreement is country number 28.

Indeed. I think there was also a problem with nazis being left to run large parts of German industry after 1945. Some were targeted by the Red Army Faction although I remember this “detail” about the victims background were generally not mentioned in UK news reports.

It was the first time in history that legal process was used to bring war criminals to trial for human rights violations. It was a landmark in human history and set the scene for the creation of the international criminal court. I would not dismiss its importance based on the number convicted.

Despite the big and avoidable mistakes made by labour, the existential threat to this country is reform. I fear that even when deserved, spending energy attacking labour is doing Farage’s work for him.

Interesting to see the flag of St George being used to demand EU membership. Maybe that’s why there are so many flags in English towns?

Surely you mean the UK and the EU can’t agree? Why only mention the EU? Do you think the EU should agree to anything the UK proposes?
November 28, 2025 at 10:37 PM
Agreed. Trying to extract a special discount may have worked when the UK was in the EU but haggling now over participation costs concerning a huge national security related opportunity is embarrassing.

Some might argue the EU has already demonstrated its peace credentials, given the award of the Nobel peace prize in 2012. Regarding UK participation in EU projects - the EU27 set the price for non-EU members, not the UK. It’s their EU. The UK left the club. This is another consequence of Brexit.

Interesting that contrary to the popular narrative, the NHS is more efficient with lower levels of “administrative” cost than many other other countries. Its main problem is funding and resources. So why do governments keep thinking it needs “restructuring”?

I’m not sure this is a bad idea. Trial by jury is generally a peculiarity of Anglo Saxon legal systems. Most European countries for example allow those accused of crimes to be judged by qualified judges instead of random and potentially biased strangers with no legal qualifications.
