He/him. Itinerant hobbyist. Currently collecting mechanical keyboards, woodwind instruments, HEMA equipment, and indie RPGs.
Swords folk already have something going on with them to get into a niche even smaller than MOF. I only worry I'm too normie for the hobbies I'm in since I'm the token cishet in my own feeds so I just gotta lean harder into the niche

Showed up for swords but the rest was not that surprising

Once again I am forced to consider the stair climber. My oldest enemy

On the one hand I see how giving emblems to a random 3 mana nonlegendary is probably bad design but consider this: I loved him and boros burn was a lot of fun and sunspine lynx isn't the same.

Me whenever the montantes get restocked. Why would I drop real money on a weapon that you can only safely do solo? Big sword that's why

I'm too german-pilled since I like messer over sidesword so it's currently the Augsburg Group sources, basically Codex Wallerstein and Durer's fightbook (which is basically the same book in the grappling section but with better art)

But since HEMA is a much more niche hobby, than other grappling sports, I think I crave the novelty of the written source vs the living tradition of Judo or BJJ. Their accessibility and resources are huge, so I'm probably gonna end up using 'em as gap filler once the HEMA sources stop making sense.

We see it enough within similar weapon systems already, there's only so many ways to do a thing that works. Turns out humans have thought about the best way to throw other humans all over the world, and we pretty much all agree.

That tracks, yeah. We've gotten this far just in t-shirts for years but I do see the appeal of collar and sleeve based stuff. We're considering a side event for jacketed wrestling for our club's tournament coming up in January, but as a club we're not practiced at it.
November 20, 2025 at 3:04 PM
I'm sure that there's plenty of evidence for jacketed stuff explicitly in HEMA but if my club's units have a weak point it's that there's very little discussion about sources during this unit, it's all practical but generic throws and such. Thus why I'm jazzed about having a wrestling source now.

Our usual unit focuses heavily on color and elbow, catch, and similar jacketless work. Personally I have a hang up about using a gi for HEMA. Gis have so much history and tech written about and for them that I worry about maintaining a HEMA focus, I guess. Wrestling is wrestling, but still.

Agreed, she's held this seat since Reagan, there's gotta be a better option somewhere.

@repmarcykaptur.bsky.social again signing on to R bills thinking that will save her because the district keeps getting gerrymandered more and more red. I'd rather see her try and energize the Democrat voters that remain instead of continuing the failed strategy of courting the center.

Plus being able to do the HEMA reading to something like wrestling is really fun even though no one made up the vocab or position names a la longsword. At least Durer had the decency to number everything.
